Serbia and Montenegro is a small southern European country with an extremely long name. This winter the country know as Yugoslavia got this very long and akward name. With its population of 11 million one would think it is overpopulated. The capital city, BELGRADE, houses 2.5 million citizens. This city is rich in history and will keep a traveler entertained for quite a while. In the northern province of VOJVODINA, the lifestyle is a more mellow. People there like to take their time to enjoy life and especially food.
In the republic of Montenegro, a visitor will find many beach hideouts. The coastal towns of Herceg Novi, Budva, Tivat and Kotor each have something unique to offer.
In the northern province of VOJVODINA, the lifestyle is a more mellow. People there like to take their time to enjoy life and especially food. The northern capital, NOVI SAD, is also rich in history and sites including the Petroveradin Fortress. Further to the east of the country is SMEDEREVO. This city is famous for a fortress that lines the banks of the Danube. In the heart of SERBIA is the city of KRAGUJEVAC, which is the headquarters of Zastava, the car company responsible for the enfamous Yugo. In the south-eastern corner is the city of Nis. Nis is made famous by its beer and skull wall. Finally, for the sports-minded traveler Kopaonik is great for skiing and snowboarding and the river Tara is great for rafting.
- Pros:Still relatively ignored by tourists, hence unspoiled by large crowds of snap happy foreigners!
- Cons:Sometimes lacks adequate facilities for a painfree trip! ex. lack of ATMs
- In a nutshell:Any country that has been so heavly covered in the news has got to be worth visiting in person!
