when I fell in love

by counsel14 - last update: Apr 7, 2009

I was 13 years old

Uncle Frank's house in Mexico City
The first time I went to another country, I was thirteen years old. I flew for the very first time, all by myself, from Virginia to Mexico City. We had a change of planes in New Orleans and I remember wondering how to get from one end of the airport to the other in time for the plane...and how was I going to know which plane to get on anyway? I was only a kid! How could my parents DO this to me? What if I got kidnapped or something? Didn't they even care?
Phewwww! I nearly had a meltdown. Luckily for me, a soldier was on the same plane as I and actually took pity on this young kid and steered me in the right direction. He was SO OLD, he must have been all of twenty! But he was very nice and helpful. I spent the summer in Mexico City with my Godparents and their family. I traveled all over the countryside with them and a great love of color, Mexican food and music, and travel was born.
I've never been the same since that summer.

I fell in love with the colors and styles

so much so that when my husband and I were able to finally buy our own home after years of wandering around Army posts, I painted every room a different, bright color! My mom called it a "mexican whore house" but I love the different colors surrounding me.
I have a bunch of Mexican suns, moons and lizards hanging all over my walls, also have suns, moons and critters all throughout my gardens.
Mexico City

Mexico will always be special to me

George and I took a trip to Mexico city this last year so he could see what I love about the place. He's very Teutonic and thought he wouldn't like the place. He really enjoyed himself in this gorgeous city.
Go see for yourself what a wonderful place this city can be!

What a great first trip!! Yes, it is a wonderful place to visit; we keep going back; and in fact came thru just Friday, back fr Europe when we were re-routed due to a cancelled flight; but only saw the new airport--it is fantastic!
