2007 trip to the Holy Land

Gallilee

Angie and me
Northern Israel looks exactly like the Hill Country region of Texas! I was amazed. They even have prickley pear cactus (they call it Sabra ) all over the place. My sister Angie and I took a boat ride on the sea of Galillee (also known as Lake Kinneret). We saw Capernaum, Tiberius and En Gev from the boat.
St. Peter's house

Capernaum

This is the ruins of "St. Peter's house" in Capernaum. Supposedly where Peter lived in Capernaum during the three years of Christ's teaching. Just down the hill from the where Jesus spoke the "sermon on the mount" and fed the five thousand. It's the only house with a "special" room in it, a circular living space designated as the room where Jesus stayed during his time there. It's covered with a glass roof to protect it.
"Moses" seat

more Capernaum

The picture shows the Moses seat in the synagogue at Capernaum. The Moses seat is where the Rabbi's would sit when they were judging a trial, reading from the scriptures, or just teaching their people about the Law. It is standing in the synagogue that dates from the 2nd century in Capernaum. The temple was built on the existing foundation that dates from the first Century. The lady to the left of the Moses seat is Hana, our Russian guide.

Yes, that land mind photo would have to be in the Golan. Don't think there are mines anywhere else these days.
