I had such a hard time getting used to this city. We drove up out of the Sinai desert and suddenly saw the Suez canal. Kept on going and the land was still desert, with little tufts of small brush growing near the canal. then, through the canal and Wham! things changed. now there's lots of places where green can be seen, and large wonderful looking new buildings under construction. The closer we got to the city the more traffic we saw. And the traffic was so strange. Donkey pulled wagons filled with food and kids hanging off, buses crammed full with hundreds instead of the fifty or so they should carry, motorcycles with entire families hanging on, and the cars! cars everywhere all going 70 MPH with no sense of staying in one's marked lanes! And the dirt! Everywhere! |
| | Then there was luxury We arrived at the hotel and passed through the security checkpoint (complete with a nice brand new xray machine for our luggage and packages). Checked into our rooms and went to dinner. OMG! sat down to a twenty course meal! Never had one that big in my whole life! The rooms were beautiful, the grounds were beautiful! Looked out past the walled gardens and saw DIRT! |

lindyz Sun Oct 25, 2009 22:04 UTC Susan, Cairo looks both intriguing and somewhat disgusting (the dirt!) at the same time. Most people I talk to dont actually like Cairo, but do like other places in Egypt. Will visit one day :) | uglyscot Wed Oct 14, 2009 13:31 UTC Nice introduction to Cairo | geohart Sun Sep 27, 2009 15:23 UTC The things we do to please our husbands!
