"KURORT RATHEN AND THE BASTEI" Kurort Rathen by AsturArcadia

Kurort Rathen Travel Guide: 32 reviews and 172 photos

The first photo in this selection shows either Leipzig of 1929 or Dresden of 1926 heading downstream between Kurort Rathen and Stadt Wehlen in late September 1998. These are the two youngest members of the steamer fleet (four motorships were built in the 1990s), while the oldest, Stadt Wehlen, dates from 1879. Even though this photo dates from my pre-digital era, and is a poor scan, it is one of my favourites!

Forward in time now to September 2013, and another view of the superb floral displays surounding that house on the road from Strand to Kurort Rathen.

The annual Weinfest was in progress, so there were considerable queues for the cross-river ferry on the Sunday, and quite possibly an increased steamer service was being provided from Pirna and downstream.
