"ARÉVALO" Arévalo by AsturArcadia

Arévalo Travel Guide: 1 reviews and 6 photos

In the heart of the rather featureless arable landscape of the Tierra de Campos is the town of Arévalo, with a picturesque old quarter (there is a good view of this as the train crosses the Adaja valley, just north of the station) and a plinthed steam locomotive in a small park in the Avenida Emilio Romero. This is an 0-6-0 of considerable historical value, built by Schneider in 1860 for the FC de Madrid a Zaragoza y Alicante (MZA) as 204, later carrying the number 030-2264 under RENFE ownership. Arévalo Ayuntamiento is now responsible for its upkeep. 6 September 1989 was one day the townsfolk of Arévalo will not forget. The Madrid to Gijón Talgo, with 118 people on board, was diverted by mistake onto a refuge loop at the station and collided with a freight, leaving five dead and 44 injured.
