Strange, is it not? One can live close to a place, drive past it frequently, yet never visit it. Pintueles is situated on the northwest flank of Cuesta Cayón, the 500-metre high hill that shelters Infiesto friom the most inclement types of weather, has its own railway station - admittedly four kilometres distant, and possesses a wealth of fine village architecture. Perhaps proximity is a problem. I usually drive past Pintueles when returning from the west after a day out. Too late, usually, to get the camera out again (and to get the legs out of the car in the first instance). This photo was taken on 11 September 2008. The snow scene with bovines at the end of the final travelogue, early in January 2009. It was not until early November 2009 that, on a crystral clear and warm afternoon, and with the sun in the best possible direction, I decided that it was high time to make amends and record Pintueles for posterity.

To start with, the area near the church, to the north of the Infiesto to Colunga road, and at a higher level than the village.
