Roast Duck
Kong Roast is one of my favorite places to eat out. "Kong" is for the "East" and "Roast" is for the West. In other words, you can have sushi, or meat. This restaurant is split in two. The east and the west. Upfront you are told that the "East does not talk to the west" If you order sushi and your partner orders a steak or rack of lamb, they will not guarantee that your plates will arrive together. I am not a great sushi lover, I dont mind a small morsel to taste, neither does my husband, we are meat eaters.
On all the occasions that we have been to Kong Roast with friends who have ordered sushi, we have not been disappointed, our plates have arrived simultaneously. The ambience is great, with great views over Cedar Lakes. Very comfortable, and has a smoking section for those who indulge in this relaxing passtime!!!!
It has a full bar, for cocktails, spirits, beer or wine. Above average price...very good food and service.
Favorite Dish: I love a good medium to rare fillet. The bernaise sauce is good, and vegetables are served with the meal. They cater for the vegetarians as well. Favorite drink, "Marguarita". The red wines are good too.

Global Wrapps (really good)
Baglios (ice cream)
Oriental Curries
Steers (good old burger)
Seattle Coffee Company
Favorite Dish: I have had the Lamb/mint falafel (excellent)

Baglios for delicious creamy ice-creams

Mugg&Bean
Perfectly placed on the square of the musical fountains.
While enjoying lunch or dinner, watch the musical fountain OR ENJOY CELINE DION (if you are a fan). Well, this does not happen all the time....she was performing live, the patrons could not see her, but heard her whilst dining.
Favorite Dish: A good dish: This is new on the menu, I had it for lunch.
Chicken/mushroom pot. Very tasty indeed. The pastry was placed on top of the pie dish. I like to savour and guess what the recipes are, so as to copy...was not sure of this one, it really was delicious.
Roger had the Roast beef baguette, which he enjoyed with potato wedges on the side.

Central Grill
At weekends this venue buzzes with live entertainment. Fridays are for chilling, with a DJ spinning lounge tracks, and on Sundays, there is jazz on the terrace.
Think vintage decor with autumn colours, white-draped tablecloths, comfy upholstered chairs, pink textured wallpaper, glass partitions, crystal chandeliers, soft white curtains and giant mirrors. There is a champagne and cocktail bar on the tiled terrace, a private area with a bar and elegant dining in the carpeted interior.
It is not cheap, but the menu offers a range to suit most pockets. Starters include chicken trinchado, or goats' cheese and basil bruchetta with lime-dressed rocket. For something more substantial, there's lamb stew, peri-peri chicken or steak. Seafood is a strong focus, with platters, catch of the day and specials, like seared tuna.

This is a Johannesburg instituion.
The a la carte menu is diverse and caters for all tastes, and if you enjoy meat you will have a tough time deciding what to eat.
Roasted beef fillet, with foie gras butter comes well-recommended.
Some very extravagant seafood dishes, you can get anything from Lobster bisque, right down to prawn, langoustine and green curry.
On the expensive side, but good value for your money.
Favorite Dish: I choose the fillet, but not with foie gras butter.....dont like the way ducks livers are pumped up to expand....just for a little bit of foie gras..I think it is cruel.
I like a good black pepper sauce.
Address: Wierda road, Sandton
Comparison: more expensive than average

Price: US$31-40
Rating: 5
Theme: Eclectic/International
Well positioned down the road from the Sandton CBD and attached to the City Lodge Hotel, Grayston Drive, Sandton.
The decor of The Whiteboy Shebeen is unrefined with stark iron roofing and bright orange and blue exterior, combined with a more sophisticated decor, which is both comfortable and tasteful.
Downstairs, the house in which the restaurant is situated, one finds a fun Tapas Bar which is open from noon until late. The Tapas bar serves Spanish treats such as calamari, and marog-topped oysters.
The main dining area is in the upstairs part of the house and this offers a selection od South African cuisine and a variety of other dishes from all over the world.
There are a variety of local ingredients such as "chakalaka" "pap" and typical South African dishes.
The menu changes regularly and you will not be disappointed.
Favorite Dish: I always choose the Duck!!
