"Where not only the French Fry in the Sun" French Polynesia by Kimi_the_Bear

Don't know where to start... ;-( *((/&%$

Bora Bora where I cycled around the whole island, the Tour of Bora no professional cyclist has ever done...

Or Moorea where I wore a chain of flowers around my neck, sat on pineapples, climbed on paw-paw trees and inspected the mother of pearls with a funny guy from the Marquesas...

Tahiti where I travelled by bus, sat on a beach and flirted with a flower girl...

Or Raiatea where I had a wobbly ride on a scooter, visited the most important temple of the old Polynesians and - shortly before leaving - met a bear?!

You see, the days in French Polynesia were sooooooo exciting!

They speak better French than the French in the South of France.

They have baguettes, croissants, pains aux chocolat - which is all very important for me as I am always hungry.

They have French architecture, French street signs, the cars have French number plates, they have La Maison de la Presse with the "Tabac" signs, they have gendarmes, play football and handball - it is just like little France, just a bit north of the other end of the world.

Well, but they have the bluest turquoise blue lagoons you can imagine. Flowers in their hair and around their necks. Maori-like culture and temples - no wonder, as New Zealand's Maori come from somewhere up there. And the people were sooooo friendly, even to bears like me. Oh, and as I am over 18 years old, I can tell you, they have very nice beer not only for bears. They have many churches and sing beautifully.

French Polynesia is very far in the east of Polynesia, and those lovely islands where we were are called the Society Islands. The French did not treat them in a very nice way, as they tested nuclear bombs there. You pay thousands of their currency - the CFP - for everything, and everything is very expensive. The French painter Paul Gauguin was there before me and is still more famous, but I will try to change this with my VT page ;-)

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:As beautiful and colourful as in my dreams
  • Cons:Everything is far too expensive
  • In a nutshell:I want to go back - best tomorrow, if not today!
