You shoud hear the story of the tree in the square near where there is a shop with a magnificent staircase where I bought the scarf.
I wore the scarf for the first time in Ohrid at the 7th annual Euromeet and I think JohnGayton ,the chef, liked it! Well he noticed it!
But I digress....our tour group was to meet in the Ljubljana square....There is a statue in the square that would be seen as you leave the church nearby if it was not for the tree... and the job of the tree was to do just that so we were told.. block the view of the statue ... it was thought that certain parts of the female anatomy might interfere with the holy thoughts of the men as they left the church. And now it is quite a large tree and a story to tell....in Ljubljana
And the beautiful scarf was purchased from the shop with the amazing staircase. You 'purchase' not just 'buy' a scarf of that quality!
So just across the bridge which is near the tree that hides the statue.....there are the markets. Now these markets have some "goodies" that are unique...well I think the bee hive painting replicas are only available here. Correct me if need be.
Earlier we had seen actual beehives with these paintings...possibly so the bees knew which was their particular hive. David still has some bees on the farm...his father was a bee keeper and he was so taken he bought two of these HEAVY wooden plaques. Cross your fingers Australian customs will allow them in
Luckily this photo of the others in the collection will allow us to copy the idea at home for our bees..
And I do not want to forget a very special tuna sandwich. Everything in the display cabinet was very sweet but they did have a tuna dish with toast. Amazing . This really tasty tuna" whatever" came in a glass container and we spooned it on to our toast.
PS Customs did let us bring in the bee hive paintings and they are on show in our lounge...and David has now painted some of our beehives in colour ...as they do in Slovenia.

hmmmm, yes, very intersting statues AND certainly a very lovely scarf!
Nice to see beehives paintings from Slovenia spreading to the world. I'd also recommend a visit to the Bee keeping museum in Radovljica, where they have many more on display, and it's charming small town near Bled nevertheless. Nice story and interesting experience of our capital.
