We came once before when on the ship Queen Mary2 and explored the city. So when the Sea Odyssey docked in Piraeus, the port for Athens, we decided to do something different.
But first a trip into town and a coffee where we had dined the first time.
We found an eager taxi driver who first took us into town and later back to a beautiful spot in Piraeus for lunch...
Athens is the capital and largest city in Greece. It is surrounded by three mountains...Mt Parnes, Mt Pandeli, and Mt Hymettos.
In the 5th century B.C. Athens was the cultural centre of the world.
Places of interest include the Acropolis, Benki Museum, Panathenian Stadium.
The Plaka or old town has maze like narrow cobble streets lined with cafes, restaurants, and souvenir shops.

Nice intro, Marg. When in Athens just last year, I was saddened to see so many uncared for dogs who wanted nothing more than a bite to eat and a little pat on the head. The only other place I've seen so many homeless dogs was at Pompeii. Usually it's cats that are neglected. I think someone famous said you could judge a country by how it treats its animals.
Seems like you had a very good Mediterranean cruise!
