Stamford Plaza: Charm of a Bygone Era Stamford Plaza Review

The first thing that charmed us was the entrance... two lions guard the door ...there is a drive in so one can alight in comfort...and a concierge is there to assist you with luggage. And the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Set in the heart of Adelaide the foyer has a bit of an old world feel as you might expect when you realize that there is a connection with the famous Singapore Raffles Hotel. The name comes from Sir Stamford Raffles himself. A staircase and elegant yet almost empty lounges complete the picture

And there is a Ballroom but unfortunately "No Ball Tonight". There was a conference or two but that is all.

We had booked a De Luxe room with city views...well a large concrete roof was the main
view with some buildings in the background...we were not high up though and I do prefer a lower floor so I cannot really grumble.

The room was comfortable and clean...a couple of small repairs were attended promptly.

There are 3 restaurants but we were not impressed with "swish on terrace". Thought the whole food scenario was a bit 'greasy spoon'...only had breakfast otherwise and it was all right as buffet breakfasts go.

Cost of a hotel room is always a difficult one...this is in the upper range...not budget...but time of year and other factors play a part.

There is a little bit of a "tired feeling" in places but nothing a little refurbish wouldn"t fix.

Unique Qualities: But what may not exactly be unique though it was was a bit unusual was the need to pass through the gaming area to arrive at the 'swish restaurant'. And it was the only place open for meals on the Sunday we arrived but it was booked out. Bit of a let down as it was cold and miserable outside.
