Listen to Irish Music

Finbar's Irish bar is the place to go....particularly Sunday afternoon somehere between 4.30pm and 7pm, especially if you are Irish. Why on our last visit (2011) even our Irish companion said it was just like being in Ireland. Members of the band group come and go...sometimes there is a sing-a-long...seems quite inpromptu. and the music is traditional Irish...there was a "Danny Boy" but it is not an "Irish eyes are smiling " night

We called in last night 2013 and being a Saturday there was a band....and very enjoyable it was too with a mix of music.(no disco)

Recent refurbishments have added more space and a wood-fired pizza oven and eatery to the establishment, making it perfect venue. Our Irish friend recently introduced us to Finbars...how come it took us so long?

Lunch Fr-Su 12-2, Dinner Th-Su 5.30-7.30

My suggestion is you plan an overnight stay...so you can enjoy the Guinness

Finbars is also the venue for the Celtic Winter School.."celtic music for the top of the range" Their program includes daytime workshops and a few brisk tunes at night as well as a Friday night concert.

The website is for the workshop. Usually held in winter.

Finbars has a new owner Kerry...(his grandmother came from County Kerry) and very hospitable he is too...2013)

Address: 12 Bicentennial Lane, Maleny

Directions: Maleny is a small town...just ask the locals

Other Contact: Finbars is on Facebook

Montville section - Maleny

Montville section

Bush Walking. The Great Walk.

Mapleton to Maleny (or vice versa...Sunshine Coast).

You will appreciate that these hinterland towns are really quite close together by car and as will soon learn 'doable' as a very interesting hike.

This is a wonderful walk/hike of 58 km and I have only done a part of it I can assure you (riding horses more my style)

The beauty of this walk, besides the natural beauty of the bush and waterfalls ,is that you can divide it up into sections...
Mapleton Forest Reserve to Kondalilla...then on to Baroon Pocket Dam...next section from there to Gardner's Falls Maleny.

Once at Gardner's falls, Maleny, have a dip to cool off in the clear sparkling water near the large waterfall.

Do look at this website or call in at the Maleny Visitor Information Centre for details

You can see this walk can be extended even furtherat the Mapleton end

Bet to look at a map and then enquire about the section/sections you prefer.

Address: Sunshine Coast Hinterland

Directions: You can start at any of the points mentioned

Swim with the Waterfalls

Gardner's Falls, Maleny, Queensland...photo courtesy web-site
A lovely little spot to picnic or swim is found on the outskirts of Maleny. Great for families as there is a more shallow place to swim near to the entry or more depth up near the large water fall.
You will love the clear bubbling stream found amongst shady trees. Great for a picnic, a swim, or a long relaxing walk.

The Great Walk starts here or you can enjoy a shorter stroll.

Just before you turn in to Gardner's Lane there is a restaurant and cabins as well.

Address: Gardner's Lane Maleny Qld Australia

Directions: Go down the country lane from the main road to Maleny...about 3-4 km before the main town.
It is marked 'no through road'.

Mt Mellum view. - Maleny

Mt Mellum view.

Visit Landsborough via Mt Mellum

From Maleny to Landsborough, Queensland. Sunshine Coast Hinterland.

So if you are staying in Maleny in one of the delightful 'hidden away' spots you might feel like a visit to another little country town just down the road a piece.

Of course from Landsborough you can drive on to Australia Zoo or Caloundra...or wherever...plenty of choice.

But I am wondering if you would enjoy a detour through Mt Mellum. You can make a round trip by taking the road nearer Maleny and leaving by the lower road closer to Landsborough.

There actually is a caravan park there which is pet friendly...good to know.

Directions: Turn off the Landsborough -Maleny Road

Maple Street - Maleny

Maple Street

Wander along Maple Street

Maple Streey, Maleny, Queensland.
Maple street is a pleasant street ...wide and still lined with trees in many places.

From the moment you drive into the town itself...the pub on your right and a park on your left (coming from the Coast side) you will be drawn to look at the shops in Maple Street. (Do not bother with the supermarket that interfered with the platypus population)

To be honest I believe Maleny has lost some of its better shops over the last few years but there are still some delights.

Heaps of places to eat... The Upfront Club, Cappriccio's Italian Restaurant....Colin James Fine Food, Maleny (ice cream and cheeses) to name a few.

Rosetta Books...where you can browse and a dress shop...some hippy clothes and some not.

A pleasant afternoon and especially on a Sunday you could move on to Finbarsfor a pizza and Irish Music.

Address: Maple street, Maleny

Directions: It is the main street.

stevia - Maleny

stevia

Visit Crystal Waters Eco Village

Conondale, Queensland. 26K from Maleny about 1 1/2 hours drive north of Brisbane..

It is quite a place! 650 acres of bushland.....

It is a few years since we made the trip to Crystal Waters but I have living evidence of our journey growing in our garden.

Our most excing find was Taro...a special Taro grown for the leaves... not the usual one where you grow mainly for the corm.

We cook the leaves...the NEW ones lightly...something as you would cook spinach.

Wealso brought home 2 other plants for eating and Stevia for a sweetener.
....

And these days there is a market on the 1st Saturday of the month. For 2012 it will begin in February.

And they are on Facebook

Have a look here if you want to know about the services available such as Feng Shui, Wildlife Management, Violin Tuition. Unbelievable what is on offer....

Accommodation is available. There is an Eco Caravan Park, B&B's, and Retreats...some private inhabitants may be involved with backpackers.

If you want to visit it is suggested you need to book a guided tour.

Contact by way of website. Click here for details

An Old Pub in Maleny - Maleny
An Old Pub in Maleny

Yes Maleny has a pub...all of these little towns do...and each pub has its charms. This one is said to be the hub of Maleny. There is a Garden Restaurant ...entertaiment...and very pleasant surrounds.

Address: 6 Bunya Street, 4552 Maleny Queensland
