KEELUNG CITY

Pronounced as “Jilong”; Taiwan’s seventh largest city with a total area of 132.7589 square kilometers which is situated in Northeastern part of Taiwan.

It is before in 1875 the city named as Kelang literally means the rooster cage. But sooner the people/natives have been proposed that the name was derived from Local Mountain named “Mr. Rooster Cage”

Keelung harbor the open port (Tamsui) since developed rapidly in1961 has become the seventh largest port in the world in 1984 but due to its unlimited space nowadays it is only the second largest port in Taiwan. Now they do take a big part in developing Taiwan’s tourism industry.

Highlights of the city:

>>Keelung Miaokou night market- famous in wide selections of seafood delicacies.
*at around 100m along Zhong 1st Rd. after exit from Keelung railway station and turn right at the intersection of Zhong 1st Rd. and Ai 4th Rd.

>>Chung Cheng Park – the landmark of the park is the 25m high Buddha statue *the goddess of mercy*

>>Tamsui- the open port which is fascinated by its light during night time.

>>Yehliu Geopark- famous for its sea erosion landscape * Queen’s Head*

>>Ocean world - The dolphin and sea lion show, the divers and the synchronize dancers,and the underground tunnel showing underwater creatures.
