California

Fabulous California

La Jolla
I first visited California in the late 1990's with my family. We did a fly drive from San Francisco driving down the coast through Carmel, into San Diego, then into Phoenix Arizona, Las Vegas & back out of San Francisco.
In hindsight I would fly into LA & travel around that way as we had so little time in San Francisco & too much time in LA. We were not interested in Disneyland so a lot of time was wasted trying to get away from it to more interesting places whereas San Francisco had so much that we missed out a lot of things such as Alcatraz.
I am very lucky that my cousin married a lovely American girl & they live in San Diego so I have an excuse to go back. I visited again in 2006 but my father was quite unwell a lot of the time & we stayed at the Marriot on the edge of the University campus. This meant that someone had to drive if we wanted to go out in the evenings. It was not the place to go for a walk being surrounded by such busy highways.
It is one of the annoying things about North America, you have to drive somewhere to go for a walk!

San Diego

I like San Diego very much as it has a good Mexican feel to it. I still have not seen the Gaslight District but it has a good mix of people being a Naval base and a University town.
My cousin & his wife live here & they have hummingbirds in their garden, amazing! Well I thought it was amazing, they seemed to think it was a common as me having a starling in my back garden.
I also love San Diego for its marine life & we saw a pod of 3 dolphins at La Jolla. It is also has Wyland galleries, an interesting marine artist who does some huge murals on the sides of buildings.

Guns

I just had to have a go at the gun range because I have never even handled a gun before. It was scary but fun. Mind you, I was too much of a wuss to load it, my cousin had to do that for me!
