Cala Millor resort

by KeenTraveller08 - last update: Sep 11, 2008

The scenery

Cala Millor seems perfect for a relaxing beach holiday. But it is also suitable for more active travellers who want to explore the island, with the good transport links connecting it to the caves, Palma etc. There is plenty to do in the resort- sunbathing and swimming during the day, with the slight breeze making the heat fully bearable; cocktail bars, cafes, restaurants and even 2 clubs in the evening. There are 2 playgrounds for children to have fun in. The walks along the promenade or across the sand are romantic and calming- and the picture here is the proof. The clouds changed their colours in the most incredible way- one minute they would be gentle pink, next they were fire-red! The resort has a lively boulevard, where it is nice sometimes just to sit, sipping on sangria, and watch passers by. I would recommend this resort to everyone!

Exploring the island

A short bus ride away are the Cuaves del Drach near Porto Christo. They are breathtaking, and definitely worth a visit. At the end of the excursion there is a Mozart concert performed on slowly floating lit-up boats on the lake inside the caves. This photo here was taken on the way back, and shows one of the small caves which we passed by on our boat to Cala Millor. Picturesque landscape.....
Cathedral in Palma

Palma de Mallorca

Only an hour and a quarter separate Cala Millor and Palma by bus. The city has so much to offer: large boulevards and squares with a huge number of cafes, ice cream vendors etc.; narrow streets in the old part of town, local market and boutiques, side by side; historical places of interest, such as the gorgeous cathedral (pictured); Parc del Mar, with fantastic views of the sea; local specialities- leather, glass and pearl gifts; and so on. Tourists seemed to be spread out across the city's many little streets and corners, and so Palma did not feel crowded at all. There might not be markets selling a huge variety of products, like you would find in some other countries, but there is a lot to see and do in Palma, so you will not be bored.
