A busy but wonderful town

BKK is a very busy, traficated, exhausting and expensive town if compared with other destination in Thailand. But this the town from whom you are starting your journey in Thailand and it's better that you spend some days to visit it. Above all this is a fascinating town and there are a lot of things to do. Temples, amusement, museums, the river. You may found everything in BKK and you may spend a lot of time only walking around.

When go?

Someone tells is better visit BKK from the start of your trip in Thailand, someone says it' better see BKK the last days. If this is your first trip in Thailand I recommend to start your visit from BKK becuase it's the center of cultural heritage of the kingdom. Visit BKK is easy. You may go almost everywhere by taxi, tuk-tuk, skytrain and boats (not by foot, the town is very big, hot and place of interest are distant one from an other) . There are a lot of shopping centers (all with a/C) to rest. If you have some problem with local food, it's plentyfull of international, vegetarian, italian, mexican etc, restaurant. It's an easy way to began accostimed to the country. People is used to strangers: most of them speaks english and noone is upset if don't follow strictly some rules of etoquettes. So BKK is a good start.
If you have yet visited the town and you have nothing more to see here, it's better leave BKK on the way back. This because the town is very hot and exhausting more than every other part of the country; at the end of your journey, you are more used to climate and may bear better sultrness. If you have travelled a lot in some uncomfortable way or accomodation, you my take here your final relax (there are a lot of good hotels, with swimming pool, spa etc). Last, but not least, have you forget to buy something? Surely you'll find it in BKK.

BKK in five days

Tgis is not so much time but try this.
1° day. Grand Palace, Wat Phra Keo, National Museum. You may go there by boat or taxi
2° day. Dusit Area: Vimanmek Palace (same ticket of Grand Palace, don't throw away, Wat Bechamabobhit (Marble Temple); if you have time go to Suan Pakkard Palace (take a taxi) and Siam Square for shopping.
3° day. Golden Budda (Wat Traimit) and Chinatown.
4° day. Spend a day on the river. It's cheap and funny. Try the Chao Phraya Express River Taxi or Express Boat. You may find at Saphan Taksin (where skytrains ends) or near Royal Orchid Sheraton, in front of River Shopping Complex. Remember, some thais may tell you that this service is over or fully booked, don't trust. This a regular boat taxi service geared to Thais and there are frequent departure.
5° day. Book a tour to Ayuthaya and Bang Pa In. One trip by boat and reverse by bus or viceversa.
There are a lot of things to do in BKK, but don't miss Chatuchak week-end market (on saturday or sunday).
