Harmony in diversity! It is still, I believe, Indonesia's motto.
During my long discussions with the Indonesian people, I found them sereen and peaceful, liking their neighbors, regardless of their religion (boudist, muslim, balinese, chinese, protestant, christian, etc...).
Nowaday, with Suharto (their good tyran) gone, and some few hot spots and few genocides, I believe this destination to still be enjoyable and worth the trip.
I first stayed in the barrack section (employee quarters) of P.T. Badak Gas Plant while on work assignment in Bontang on Kalimantan. An immersion if you ask me, being about the only non-indonesian around. Making great friends and take the opportunity to 'escape' and enjoy the sites with them as often as possible.
I then returned to Bali, few years later on break from a stay in Singapore. All by myself again. Well, stop mopping, rent a jeep and go temples, volcanoes and rice patties hopping. Bali is so beautiful.
Now if I can just resume scanning some more pictures and add some text. Do come back, I am just starting.
Selamat Jalan! |
