Like nothing we had ever seen before

If you are “the glass is half full” kind of traveller, then your glass will be positively overflowing. Otherwise, don’t even consider going to Marrakech. We found it amazing in every way. The minor inconveniences paled beside the unbelievable atmosphere of the place. We arrived at the airport at around 8:30 in the evening and took a bus to Place Jamal Fna. We had dinner on the terrace of the Argana Restaurant and looked over the scene below us. Crowds of people, mopeds, and donkeys and carts filled the square to a background music of the snake charmers and drums, and smoke from the charcoal fires of the food stalls. It was like nothing we had ever seen before.

One VTer described Marrakech as one big tourist trap. Well we were certainly entrapped by it and only sorry they released us 5 days later. We loved every crowded, noisy, smelly (good and bad), colourful minute of this incredible city.

One major inconvenience when travelling in Morocco is being 2 hours offset from your inner clock. Argana is always there, the service efficient and polite, some of the dishes scrumptuous. We found it to be our preferred restaurant all through our stay!

I love that opening shot, and indeed so many of your photos are excellent. I'm glad you liked Marrakech so much but envy you that stroll around the souks - something we hdn't managed to fit in before my accident :-( Your riad sounds and looks wonderful!

Youve made a lovely little page - glad you enjoyed Marrakech as I love it - for the good and the bad. 100 dirham was a good price for hotel pickup- a lot of them charge double which is getting expensive!
