| Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA |
| | Although it really doesn’t look like it is, Las Cruces is actually the second largest city in New Mexico.
It is the home of the New Mexico State University and boasts of a wonderful backdrop of the Organ Mountains. The New Mexico Farm and Ranch heritage Museum chronicles the 3000 year old history of NM, including life at the Old Mesilla which revolves around a plaza which has no changed much since the old days. The church that you find at the Plaza has recently been honored (Nov 2008) by being given a yellow and orange umbrella made-to-order from Belgium by the Vatican to signify “basilica” status. On Highway 28, take in the scenery and lots of chili and pecan fields.
Old Town Mesilla
150 years ago, this was a major trade center for anyone travelling between San Antonio and the west coast, including the Butterfield Stagecoach. Billy the Kid actually stood trial for murder in a Mesilla courtroom! |
