An Afternoon in a Redwood Forest

Years ago, it was here in charming Los Gatos where I earned my driver's license (after three attempts! Uh...).

Here the twins are shown sitting on the trunk of a possible 10000 year old tree in the Santa Cruz mountains along Summit Rd off I-17. Los Gatos is located 60 miles south of San Francisco, in the southwestern portion of Santa Clara County where the Santa Clara Valley meets the lower slopes of the Santa Cruz Mountains.

It is bounded by San Jose where my sister and her family lives beside the E-bay Headquarters, Campbell to the north, Monte Sereno and Saratoga to the west, counties of Santa Clara and Santa Cruz to the south.

Mountain Lions in the Past!

Screaming Lions - Los Gatos was originally named La Rinconada de Los Gatos (Cat’s Corner) by early settlers due to the screams of mountain lions prowling in the night.

Los Gatos has a long history. From 1840, when the Mexican government granted a land patent for a 6,600 acre rancho to Sebastian Peralta and Jose Hernandez to the present time with multi-million houses, classy litttle shops and food stores and nice private schools (like where my nephews are currently studying).

Looks like a very beautiful place. Just be careful walking along any trails especially with little ones. Nice page and the twins are adorable.
