Sheraton Crescent Hotel: A classic Sheraton right on major freeway   Check Rates

  • Sheraton Crescent Hotel
2620 West Dunlap Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85021

We always pass by the Sheraton Crescent Hotel which is set right in the middle of the length of the major Phoenix freeway, I-17. It is literally along the freeway and accessible to a large mall called the Metrocenter. What we enjoy in this hotel is the Indigo Restaurant in which we enjoy breakfasts prepared by a good hotel chef --- my wife enjoys the eggs benedicts while I
just have my oat meal and sausages.
They do have an outdoor heated pool called the Monsoon Mountain which has a 166 foot waterslide, and sometimes the hotel offers family packages (like 50% off then hotel price) during the off-seasons. As of January 2009, some renovations are being done near the lobby and I guess this is good improvement for this 342-roomhotel which has been a part of the I-17 for quite a while.
The building is older compared to other Sheratons that I have stayed at in other parts of the world. But, overall, a very convenient classic hotel westside.

    Unique Qualities: Monsoon Mountain pool
(Halfway) Between the westside Glendale and the eastside Scottsdale - smack in the middle of these two cities

This is another successful Marriott venture --- building a classy hotel right beside the University of Phoenix Stadium built for the Super Bowl of 2008 --- Home of the Arizona Cardinals! And beside the amazing entertainment center of Westgate...

I saw this hotel rise from the ground since we live near it. The first time I set foot in it was when our friend’s daughter had her formal 18th debutante’s party ( attended by about 400 close friends and relatives in a wonderful ballroom). The food was likewise impeccable. The sound system and lights were the latest technology.

The façade at the lobby is impressive. The hotel has a wonder restaurant called Soleil in which we’ve had quite a few breakfasts --- and the preparation of the meals are definitely topnotch (compliments to the chef). There are 11 floors, 272 rooms and 46 suites, 30 meeting rooms --- so nice to have something so spectacularly huge just a few blocks from our home. When I have guests, I just bring them there for a little snack or breakfast. There is also a spa and I think my wife will be trying it out soon.

Unique Qualities: Soleil Restaurant, 30 meeting rooms (95,000 sq ft)

Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort: Great Rock Mountains, older Classic Hotel   Check Rates

  • When you first drive into the entrance of Pointe Hilton in Phoenix, you will be amazed by how wonderful the complex has been set in between the desert rock mountains. The façade entrance has a nice big fountain although the car has to navigate well through the narrow passage. The suites are located on rolling hills and therefore, you will find one-way roads that are sometimes somewhat too inclined.
The hotel itself has been here for a number of years and aging is showing in the building, but still it retains its nice Southwestern appeal due to the dramatic fountains. The registration is impressive – with very helpful staff and there is even a nice café at the end with Starbucks coffee.
The rooms are in different buildings and your view and proximity to the pool depends on which building you are. The interior is well decorated and rooms are cleaned promptly by a very meticulous staff. The pool area is okay, but not as ornate and elaborate as in some more modern hotels.
And just across the street is a mountain jogging place – for those of you who want your early (or late) exercise!

    Unique Qualities: golf, jogging

am currently in Phoenix (and as a 'VA' I am currently in IRELAND!), .....and was looking for a restaurant tip for a special place to take our son and d-i-l, to celebrate the new grandchild, but pizza is not it!

When I was growing up in Illinois we also used to call them fire engines, I don't know why. Anyway, I was impressed by all your Phoenix tips -- so much to do there! I'd love to take the Grand Canyon Railway -- and Phoenix Metro Rail.

Phoenix landscape seems to be a bit out of Earth in comparison to the landscapes we are familiar with. But Jerome and Prescott would be interesting for us, for sure. Saguaros we have seen only in cartoons (I guess), they look great.

Hey Norman, are you a "regular" firefighter, or a volunteer...have a good friend from our Arad rescue team who has moved to the US and is now volunteering for a Washington DC group. Martin
