Grand Canyon National Park Off The Beaten Path Tips by jumpingnorman

Cameron Trading Post - nice stop before canyon Outside the Park Review

When bringing friends to Grand Canyon, I start from the east entrance of the National Park's South Rim (as of 2008, car entrance $25 and for seniors, pass is only $10) going to the west side where the Grand Canyon Village is. We also always stop at the Cameron Trading Post which is located just north of the intersection of 89A and 64...the entrance to park is only 30 minutes from here (South Rim).

Aside from the great souvenirs you can buy at this Native Indian-run place, the post has a restaurant which has very quick service for tourists wanting to load up with energy and eager to see the canyon views. Notice the handicraft, artworks on display and also the amazing silver ceiling of the dining room.

In the past, Navajo and Hopi Indians bartered wool, blankets and livestock for flour, sugar, canned goods, and other stuff. This remote location of the Wild West later became open through roads, specially the 89A and the post's president is a direct descendant of the original founders. There is also a lodge if you want to sleep in this area which can be your "post" between the North and South Rims.
