I rarely take flower pictures, but these are nice!

So here I am now on Iceland Air, flying from JFK to Reykjavik. I really haven’t done much of my homework but I did read some of our VTer’s trips to Iceland through Regina, Pamela, JLBG, and so forth….Their pictures look great and I want to get some of my own, hehehe.

It seems that Iceland has roughly the landmass of Kentucky or England, and it has only 300,000 citizens – most them (60%) living around the capital. Their language as I can hear it here on the plane is quite distinct --- being so similar to what the Vikings spoke. Icelanders can even read ancient literature like the SAGAS, and 100% of them are literate --- and so they all can probably speak English as well.

Looking at the Things to Do, I wish I could stay here for a month! But it looks like I have prepared for myself an action-packed itinerary and I just hope the weather is going to be okay. I booked everything while I was still in Arizona and my main worry is if I have time to transition from each activity that I bought, lol --- I think I’ll collapse after this adventure in Iceland!

Iceland is one of the Nordic countries, forming from the settlers who established a democratic society and the first parliament in 930. There is a tradition of storytelling and rhyming that led to famous literature – Sagas, Edda, Bjork and Sigur Ros.

One of the Nordic settlers was Ingolfur Arnarson who founded Reykjavik in 874. I don't think he had any idea that where he set up camp would soon be this modern thriving city of Reykjavik.

In 1900, this city only had 5800 inhabitants with only 2 stone buildings, a cathedral and a prison and most of buildings were humble wooden and turf houses.

Now it amazes me that anywhere I go in Reykjavik, even in seemingly remote areas of lava fields, my cellphone had good signal!

It's summer in Iceland and I am jumping in the good Reykjavik weather! Everything's nice and green, and the air is unbelievably clear. The sun never went away and it takes a day or two to get used to - but I'm not complaining. This jumping picture was taken at 10 PM.

I love jumping with you Norman, but I more enjoyed walking with you around Reykjavík places of interest and water attractions. Thank you for your efforts. Carole.

Between all of your jumping and your excursion to the Blue Lagoon, I would judge your trip to Reykjavik as a complete success. The Blue Lagoon is absolutely awesome.

Hi. I live close by the church and the scaffolding has been taken away in the last 2 weeks. Tower looks almost white, looks like they did a nice job.

The Icelanders really know how to do tourism, everything was so well organized! I actually ate at McDonald's there because the food was so expensive and I NEVER eat at MCDonald's!!!

Norman, fabulous page about Reykjavik, which is still on my must visit list. I like the idea of going to a geothermal pool right now. Keep up the good work.
