"My Grandpa Visiting Japan with sunglasses, cigar.." Asia by jumpingnorman
Asia Travel Guide: 258,125 reviews and 691,173 photos
We now live in North America, but we will forever be connected to the Asian Continent.
My grandfather (who had only one eye, hence the sunglasses) had to hide from the Japanese soldiers who were killing all men in his town during WW II - he had to stay under the bridge for several hours. Fifteen years later, here he is holding a champagne bottle with Japanese businessmen! Times do change so fast!
He passed away at a ripe age of 93 years old, and he used to tell me that my great great great great (before the Spaniards arrived).....grandfather actually came from Indonesia and he was the chief of a group of ten families (on boats). The group ended up in the fertile lands near the Taal Volcano of the Philippines and set up camp. Later on, my side of the family eventually ending up in Batangas, Philippines.
My grandmother on the other hand (pictured here with my father) had a family that came from Southern China.
My maternal grandparents do not have much of a story except that their families lived near the head hunters of Kalinga-Apayao - I doubt that they were headhunters themselves though...
My family started migrating to the USA in the 1970's, but I still spent my growing up years mostly in Quezon City in the beautiful country of over 7,000 islands, the Philippines.
It was LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT for me when I met my wife on Valentine's, but I had to persuade her a little that she loved me too...awwww... aside from my good looks and awesome personality, the flowers and jewelry bought from Chinatown Manila helped...hehehehe...
Twelve years later (after that destined Valentine's date), our twins were born by God's will exactly on February 14th in Phoenix, Arizona - our new home only 4 hours by car from the majestic Grand Canyon!
