The way to enjoy the Nieuwkoopse Plassen is by canoe. This way you can go to places motorboats are not allowed to go, or in the very small canals where the electric whisper boats are too big for.

With all that water around Nieuwkoop it will be easy to find a nice place to swim.
But water will be too cold in winter and in summer the heat will grow toxic alges in the Plassen.

There is a great alternative in the form of the indoor swimmingpool De Wel .
The swimmingpool also houses a sauna , turkish bath and sunstudio.

The swimmingpool costs:
2,85 Euro for adults or 2,20 Euro for children.

When winter is cold enough it is great to be skating on the Nieuwkoopse Plassen. Enjoy the nature around you and feel very free. When the waters are froozen you can go wherever you want. Between the high golden colored reed you can feel lost, but then suddenly after the next corner you see the famous tower in Nieuwkoop or the watertower in the Meije (aka the pencil).
Winter is one of the best times to be on the Plassen.

Equipment: Obviously you need skates. Renting skates is not very easy and if you want to buy skates during a cold freezing period in Holland you must be very lucky to find your size.

There are tours on the Plassen when all the water is frozen over. Details of this tours and their starting points can be found on teletext on dutch television (Ned1, Ned2 and Ned3) in season.

Fishing on the Noordense Plas

With all this water around there is enough oppertunaty to go fishing.
To fish in the Plassen you have to obtain a sportvisakte (a national tax) and a license of the watermanager. Licenses can be bought at the rowingboat renters.

Equipment: A sportvisakte can be bought at postoffices and at fishingshops, fishingclubs and at some V V V offices. It costs €9,50.
