  • Practise your nodding / bowing. At almost every occasion it is polite. Even the ATM machines do it.......

In Japan there are combined bicycle/foot paths. As we are not used to this we often had near misses. Most bicyclist managed to avoid a crash at the last moment.

  • In Japan you will sometimes encounter monks begging. This monk is at the entrance of the Shi tennoji in Osaka. Most can be found at tourist spots, because that is where the money is.

  • Japanese people remove there shoes when they enter a house or other building with tatami floors. The shoes remain outside and slippers are worn, or you just move on your socks. So make sure you do not have holes in your socks.

  • All over Japan you will see this koinobori (carp streamers) flying in the wind.

Flying carp streamers are traditional in Japan.
5th of May is called "Children's Day" in Japan. On this day parents who have a newborn baby boy celebrate their son's birth by flagging carp streamers. You can see carp streamers flying in the sky here and there especially in the countryside of Japan

The carp is thought to be a symbol of success and people in Japan began to fly carp streamers to wish their child future success.

you caught very nice pictures of castles, shrines, cherry-blossom, etc. I like your first Japan page with children and bicycle. Its a typical scene.
