  • All the strange forms are exiting and makes you wonder how they built it. There is still work in progress and you will notice that styles are changing over the years. You can climb a tower and have a great view of the city.
It is a constant constructionsite, but since money came in generously lately, it is said the Sagrada Familia will be read y in 2022. The building started in 1883, this makes it probably the longest construction in the world.

  • The street to be is the Ramblas. It is a street full of market stalls and lots of restaurants have chairs in the street for you to have a drink and watch the people go by.

And there is also a lot of entertainment by streetperformers, like living statues or musicians.

  • Even when it is raining it is fun to be on the Ramblas. In this pics we were having a beer and a pizza when the heavens opened.......
Rain poored down but getting a little bit closer together we managed to keep reasonably dry, opposed to the people walking by.

  • A great park by Gaudi.

Eusebi Guell asked Gaudi to built this park in 1900. The work was stopped in 1914.

All over the parc you will find colorfull statues, buildings and even benches.

  • In the middle of the Barri Gothic you will find the gothic cathedral. Construction began in 1298. The work on the present-day façade of the Cathedral remained unfinished until the end of the 19th century.

Do have a look inside, to see great artwork and it is free!

Pictures can be found in our cathedral travelogue.

  • The Placa Real is a lovely square just of the Ramblas. You will find many restaurants at this square. But be aware some are just there for tourists. If one has a long queue of locals waiting outside that is a good one! But if you are hungry and not very particular you can grab a bite at the other ones.

The streetlighting here is designed by Gaudi.

  • At the westside of the city is a hill called Mont Juïc. From this hill you have wonderfull views of the city. Besides that there is more to see there like a fort, the olympic stadium and the national palace. More about this attractions in the next tips.
To get to the top of Mont Juïc, there are several options:
One is the funicular followed by the teleferic, a cablecar.
    Montjuïc Funicular
    Access: Metro Paral.lel (L2 and L3)
Links Av. Paral·lel with the Montjuïc cable car
    1,65 € one way; 2,40 € round trip
    teleferic
From the upper Montjuïc funicular railway station.
    3,00 € one way; 4,21 € round trip

Or just walk to the fort (Castell de Montjuïc) on the top. Certainly in spring it is worth to walk and enjoy the green surroundings.

Going into the museum also gives you the chance to see the inside of the fort. From the top of the fort you have an excellent view over Barcelona.
