| Marselisborg, summer residence of the Royal family |
Tom had to go to Arhus on business in august 2006, knowing nothing about this danish city i decide to come along and discover it. Soon enough i understood why the royal summerpalace is built here. This is a city where i could easily spend all summer. Visiting in august we expected it to be crowded but, eventhough there was the world championship orienteering going on the days we visited, the city was empty enough to get a table along the A boulevard. Yet there were enough tourists around to give us the vacation feeling.

The city of Arhus is very small and could be walked through from north to south in a day. Yet there are many things to see and do. So one day is probably not enough. But i tried........ The old city is still very much alive in the Latin Quarter. In these streets, located north of the cathedral, you can find some houses dating back to the 17th century.
Ofcourse you have to stop at the cathedral first. This church was built in the 12th century, but what you see today is the result of rebuilding in Gothic style from the end of the 15th century. The cathedral is Denmarks longest church; it has the most frescos; the largest organ; and its triptych is Denmark's largest artistic Medieval treasure.
Ofcourse you could visit some museums, there are enough here in Arhus. | | | Old houses in the latin quarter |

But if you are more of an outdoor person go south of the city into the woods surrounding Marselisborg castle. Or have a walk along the A river in the southwestern part of the city.
Ofcourse you could also have a easy outdoor activity, like visiting the beach. By car or bicycle to the Moesgard beach is recommendable. But there are some nice sandy parts just south of Arhus.
And much more relaxing can be one of the outdoor cafés along the A boulevard. Have a drink, a snack, or even entire meals here.
All these things will be explained more thorough in our tips and travelogues.
