Luxembourg is one of the smallest countries of Europe. Yet it is not overcrowded. When we seek some space we will go (for a long weekend) to Luxembourg. It has lovely hills and some nice cities. Ancient castles makes it like a fairytale.
The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is a constitutional monarchy. The country is 84 km (51 miles) long and 52 km (32 miles) wide, and has a population of 435 700 inhabitants (official estimate Jan 1, 2000).
Some 90,000 live in Luxembourg-city and its immediate surroundings. The number of foreign residents in Luxembourg has already exceeded 32 % of the population. It is the highest proportion of foreigners of any EU country.
'Lėtzebuergesch' is the everyday spoken language of the people. Since the creation of a dictionary, and a grammar, this former Mosel-Frankish dialect is now recognised as the national language (since 1984), while both French and German remain the official languages. Many Luxembourgers speak English too.

| view on Vianden from its walls |
We like to go to Vianden, a small fortified town with a castle on top of its hill. The castle is certainly worth visiting and the entire town is great to take pictures. Take a walk along its walls, or if you are a nature lover there are many routes to walk in the fields and forests around the town. There are churches and museums for people who like to soak culture in. And when travelling with kids (or when you feel like a kid) you can take a ride in the chairlift.

Other areas worth going to include the area referred to as little Switzerland, the Mullerthal. This is where you find some weird rockformations. A great area to hike, or ride your allterrain bicycle.
