Kalayaan | Lakeshore Town of Kalayaan |
I don't know much about the history of the town of Kalayaan, but a marker posted in the municipal building states:
"On this side grew a coconut tree with three branches interpreted by our forebears as the future site of our municipal building; three branches being San Juan, Longos and San Antonio."
I learned that historically, the place was made up of the three original visitas (Babaye, Abacao and San Pablo), and today, the prophesy had been realized. Babaye is now Longos; Abacao is now now San Juan; and San Pablo is now San Antonio. Today, Kalayaan is categorized as a 5th class municipality in the province of Laguna. It is often described as rectangular in shape, but I see it as shaped like a foot pointing upwards. Athough it is a lakeshore town (being at the coast of Laguna de Bay), it also has a hilly terrain mostly on its eastern side, while its western side is relatively flat lands. |

| | Natural Wonders Kalayaan is slowly being known to tourists and photography enthusiasts for its natural wonders. So far, I have gone only to San Juan Twin Falls, also called Twin Falls. It is located at the foot of the mountain, on the eastern part of Barangay San Juan. |
