Basic Facts About Montalban

In early 1871, Padre Eustaquio, a native of Pasig established the town of Montalban, which was formerly a part of San Mateo. It was not yet called Montalban that time; the natives called their place "Balite" after the balete trees found in Montalban River. It was later renamed Montalban by the Spaniards, from the Spanish word "monte" which means mountain, since the place was surrounded by Sierra Madre Mountains. Montalban was returned to be part of San Mateo in 1903, but became a separate town again in 1908. As history would have it, Montalban was later renamed Rodriguez.

Montalban is a beautiful, cool town, known for it awesome natural wonders like caves, mountains, marble mines and rivers . Lately, it became more popular as the site of Avilon Zoo, a wildlife breeding facility & botanical garden.
