The town name comes from the word "confluence", it lays on the confluence of two rivers. It is about 20 mins by train west from Brussels. Like many towns in this area, houses were built on the river. The river doesn't smell, and Gent/Gand is well worth a visit. |
| | Just take bus 1 (1,20 EUR, ticket bought outside on bus stop machine) and drop 7 stops ahead for the city center. A trip on the boat is worth it (40mins 5eur), you'll see a lot and know about the city. |
| | Channels are also open to private boating, though in some parts motors are not allowed. |
