"I've been everywhere like everybody else" shavy's Profile
There are only two things I do in life working or traveling, if I'm not working I'm traveling, if I'm not traveling I am working
Traveling is for me the only way to relax, every single day is precious
I got few weeks off from work, even the long weekends or the regular weekend I would like to spend outside the country
It wasn't very easy...I prefer to travel than working of course, the obligation of coming back home is waiting
Starting my farthest trip for the first time to South east Asia I was so excited about it as a solo traveler
As you can see my origin is from there, I came to Belgium in 1985 my first impression is huh, everything is different here the weather is so cold, foods are different and most of all the language not everyone speak English
It was not so easy to understand someone. It took me 4 year to speak and understand the language (Dutch)
Going to school is the only way to learn Dutch and keep myself busy everyday reading the thick dictionary from A to Z pages by pages that was the craziest moment in the beginning
I continue studying and I'm become more fascinated with the language I know Europe has many different language I was so interested to learn a few of them I have learn the Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese and I was trying learning the German as well
Why all those languages?
I know traveling in some European counties we sometimes encounter with the language and it's perfect if you already understand and speak
From where I live is closed to the border of France, Holland,Germany and that is why is very easy to get away for a weekend trip to this neighborhood country
And the second time I travel alone was in California I supposed to meet my friend living in San Francisco, but my plan was first drive around L.A to Vegas and visit the Grand Canyon before heading to meet her
Of my second night in States I choose a hotel in Vegas outside the strip as it was cheaper
So was I thought I'm in America it will be safe, I went out for dinner and when I come back to my hotel room I'm kind of having trouble my door key and there was few black guys standby in the hotel lobby and they came and ask if they can help me I said no thank you, I manage to open my door after all
Suddenly one of the black man push my door to get in my room and robbed me
He get away with all my cash, I luckily had my credit card separated in my pocket I have been traumatize for a while when the police came
After this happen to me I have been very, very careful and very alert
From here I have learn a lot! AND IT NEVER STOPS ME FROM TRAVELING ALONE AGAIN!!!
I even travel further more to South America which is completely another culture and language I heard very often that is not very safe as a female traveler
Used common sense is the big message here!
The first two days is always adjustment for me time difference, weather, culture, the locals. After all that I start enjoying my trip to the max
Weekends -long weekends prefer going out the country in the neighborhood
In a bitter cold winter I prefer to spent in an exotic climate just to get away for a while from cold
I still have plenty of places want to see all I need is the time.
My top destination!
Besides to all the country I have been, New Zealand was the best place I ever been ! though was a long flight from Brussels was about 48 hours underway including layover
No sleep for almost 2 night plus 11 hour time difference, the first week in NZ is so weird we still adjusting the time clock. It's hard to fall asleep at night due to we're in day time zone in Europe, it took a week before we get used to the local time. Still, I don't mind at all. It all worth it for the trip.
"There's something in that land that I can't describe"
Still my number one top destination!
My first impression was one of their immediate surroundings environment and scenery
It was first ever glimpse of the sea from the plane when landing into Auckland. Most I noticed New Zealand was clean and green and the stark difference in weather.
New Zealand is full of adventure and tranquility all at the same time the locals are very welcoming with their laid back style and friendly smiles
The scenery is another amazing contrast in this unique travel destination
Love the American way!
Always coming back for different tour and love driving around free like a bird
We took a flight Brussels-Atlanta-Denver was a long way over there arrive at Denver Airport very late at night, pick-up our car and drove to our hotel nearby the Airport
Next day early check-out and went to the Outlet Factory in Colorado Mills, travel to US with empty luggage I always do, every time visiting USA. Going back home with overload bags, because in America is a lot cheaper to shop than in Europe. After shopping at Lakewood we drove to the Estes Park for overnight and from there our adventure begin
Drive around the Rocky Mountains, most of the road is under construction during our visit we didn't see some of the places in the Rockies so we make a detour and drove to Utah instead
Arches National Park is a paradise for photographers under conditions of constantly changing light, the red rock landscape provides limitless photographic opportunities. It was very hot during our visit in May
Arches in Utah is beautiful ! nowhere in the world so many natural rock like Arches many bows came in the parks are all sort of other oddly shaped rock formations
Around the park is very easy to access via the 18-mile road and there's also a walking path
In the summer the temperature often every high, even a short walk though quite strenuous. Best time to visit the park is during spring or fall
I have always been fascinated by nature and I know Costa Rica is well-known for its rainforest and yes indeed they are! I'm glad I have done and seen it
In the country tropical rainforests are often referred to as jewels of the earth
In Costa Rica, numerous destinations have rainforest with walking trails
We went on a group tour to Costa Rica was in February winter time in Europe, nice to escape from the cold for a while, we're only 3 Belgian most of the groups were Holland very obvious as it was a Hollands agency, no problem as we all speak the same language dutch
We flown from Amsterdam- San Jose arrive in SJ very late at night, our tour guide waiting for us, she is Nicaraguan girl and speak fluent dutch we were amazed how she speak the language, she explained everything how it come, she grown up and went to school in Holland, of the age of 15yr her parents went back to Nicaragua.
So our first night at SJ down town only 5hour sleep, left very early in the morning to Arenal Volcano everyone in the bus are very tired, arrive at the Arenal and was a bit fresh in the area. Then the following program followed... It was a trip of 21 days combination with Nicaragua and Panama.
The tour was good organized hotel and transport and all the sights except extra pay for some of the excursion and not very cheap, well is worth doing it. The three Land together is really nice, except some days we sit too long on the bus
The Tropical Rainforest where you can do a nice walk
The beaches like Samara known as one of the prettiest and safest beaches in all of Costa Rica. It was an enjoyable trip with a group
The biggest road I ever seen and is only here in Buenos Aies with 8 lane
Yes, Argentina I remember the song 'Don't cry for me Argentina' and seen pictures all over the magazine about the Iguazu Falls how magnificent is, without a second thoughts we booked a flight. Was a long journey!
Traveling from Europe, is most expensive of the trip is the flight the cheapest route is flying to Atlanta-Buenos Aires...
We staying 2 nights in a hostel in BA check out on Sunday and we took a cab to the rental car office Alamo, arrive at the office closed! no telephone number that we can call. We have our car booked in Belgium before flying to BA the agency didn't say is closed on Sunday. We check our car voucher there's a telephone number of Alamo office in Brussels, so we ring and we have someone on the phone, we explained that Alamo office in BA is closed on Sunday we start to get in panic suddenly a car stop in front of us was our car. The driver explaining that he is over slept he's apologizing....
We normally return the car on the same day on a Sunday, after all the trouble we've been through we brought the car a day earlier on a Saturday. When we back home from our trip we complained to the agency that we have to return the car a day earlier as it was closed on Sunday, so we get refunded
Driving in Argentina is okay! but in BA its crazy such a big city. Travelling with own vehicle is the easiest way to explored the country but the distance is too far we haven't booked any accommodation during this trip, we drive from one place to another and before get's dark we start looking for place to sleep, I remember we arrive on a village no accommodation in that area, we have to drove a lot further to find a place to sleep that was a disaster as it was very dark already. So we found a room in this little village...now, its time for dinner, no restaurant around no store nothing we don't want to drive another 50km in the dark, no meal during that night sleeping with empty stomach still part of the adventure :)
Kangaroo Island is one of Australia's great scenic treasures and a must for anyone interested in travel to wilderness destinations.
It's my second time in Aussie, the first time was 10 years ago. I done the Northern and Southern part of the country. December -January 2012-2013 back again and did the other part of the country.
Arrive in Sydney late at night pick -up our rental car at the arrival and drove to the hotel exhausted after the long flight... 1 overnight stay, the next morning explore the city and thereafter heading to the Blue Mountain, we make a big round tour with a car before heading to Cape Jervis... Crossing by Ferry to Penneshaw Kangaroo Island.
It was summertime in Aussie, it's too hot for the month of January temperatures in some places goes up to almost 40C. In Kangaroo Island the temperature is bearable more wind around. The Island is not big as the name of the island called well, I would say the wilderness of Australia is in this island to those who love the wildlife
Spending three days in the island wasn't enough still a lot to see, our time is limited so we got to get back to the mainland we have our ferry schedule on the day and flight to catch in a few days.. always in hurry, we want to see many things in a short time but not all possible in this vast land
Iceland was my recent trip, apparently this was not in my bucket list but believe me, after seeing a lot of photos here in VT from Iceland I changed my mind
I already know the temperature can be cooler than in Belgium, That is why I'm hesitating to go, so we did visit the country in August, as it was the best time to travel around
Book a flight and a car for one week and travel the ring road, as we drove from the airport to the city of Rykjavik my first impression was WOW, overnight in the city center and drove away the following day
Summer months is very crowded in Iceland I can't see the difference between the locals and the tourist in hotels where we staying, we've meet more than 5 different nationalities, a lot of students from Canada, Usa, France and more is incredible that the country is very famous destinations for young students
It was absolutely a very surprise trip, I wasn't expected that so beautiful
The most stunning place I seen in the country when we were in the glacier lake area, I could sit there whole day and watch the lake and listen to the ice cracking, it was so wonderful !
