Local Markets and Street Vendors: Wang Lung Local Street Market

To get to Wang Lung catch a ferry to Phrannok Pier next to Sirirajd hospital . At the pier there are a couple of restaurants & a great fresh coffee stand (not Black Canyon) if you need to rest .However ,keep wondering down a maze of Sois and you will come to this local Thai market .You won't see too many tourists down here that's for sure. There are all sorts of stuff for sale here like cloths ,bed linen, household goods, second hand cloth/shoes/bags as well as a wide range of food all very cheap.

What To Buy: Don't miss the food especially the cheap sushi, fruit shakes.

    What To Pay: Very Cheap

"Please no more shopping! " You may be saying if your a guy with a wife/friend who is a shopper.Yes more shopping you are in Bangkok after all and there are so many shops and markets.MBK is a huge place where you can buy everything under the sun. However the prices are alittle higher than if you shop at Pratunam or Jatujak Market but more comfortable. It's well air-conditioned so you can walk longer. There is also a big food court and many restaurants to choose from.MBK is right next to the very trendy" yuppy "Siam Square shopping area where all the beautiful Thai people hang out. It is also close to Siam Center,Discovery Center and the BTS station. The center open at 10 am and close at 10 pm so that should be enough time to get all the things you need.So shop 'till you drop.

What To Buy: Anything especially cloths, watches ,toys and shoes.

    : Seng Heng: Thai Gold

  • Name of Shop: : Seng Heng

There are so many gold shops in Thailand.Gold is like money in the bank for alot of Thais and gold has always been part of the Thai 'face' culture .If your wearing lots of gold you must have money. That is often true but don't be surprise if that guy with that huge gold amulet and chain is wearing his life savings.
You will see the very red Chinese style shop in almost every main district.Thai gold is 96.5% and very dark yellow in colour .For the best gold people will tell you to head down to Chinatown to the well established shops .
The best know gold shops in Yaowatrat Rd are Hua Seng Heng,Tang To Kang & Jin Hua Heng .
When I walked along Yaowarat Rd I went by many gold shops but the three shops mentioned were packed! So when in doubt just follow the crowd.

What To Buy: 23 K 96.5% dark yellow gold.

What To Pay: Depends on the selling price on the day. This is usually written in white on the window of the shop.
