Koh Samet is an Island made romantic by the Thai poet Sunthone Phu .He based his most famous work ,the story of Phra Aphaimani on Samet. Thus it is a popular with young Thai lovers wanting to get away from hectic Bangkok. The Island is part of the Khao Laem Ya Samet National Park and less than 7 km off the coast of the fishing village Ban Pae in Rayong Province in the east of Thailand. Samet is one of the driest island in Thailand where the rainy season is limited to May and July period. It is also very easy to get to from Bangkok Ekkamai bus station. It takes about 5 hours in all to get to Samet bus, boat, pickup and finding a place to stay. |
| | Progress Ko Samet was the first Island I went to in Thailand and I always had a great time here.White sand, friendly people, little hidden away beach and simple 100 baht huts.I also learned not to leave brand new sport shoes out side the door of the hut. After about 2 weeks of Island life I returned to Bangkok very tanned and wearing different colour flip flops. I really like this little Island ,however I have notice the last time I went that everything was much more expensive.
Koh Samet is definitely starting to godownhill with a hill full of trash... and no place new to dump even more |
