Visit to this spiritual place

Haridwar is the famous "teerth Sthal" with the holy ganga. Great place to offer yourself a spiritual bath at the river ganga. The water is really COLD even in the heat of the summers. But just 1 dip and you feel very cool and good, the cold goes out pretty quick.

During off seasons you can easily walk into a lodge or hotel to get a room. There are cheap yet good options available near the har-ki-pauri ghat. Food is good and all types are availalbe. The town is small and the main market can be scanned on foot.

Best attraction here is the Morning and Evening Aarti at the banks or River Ganga. Morning around : 6 AM Evening around: 6:30 PM (During summer )

TIP- try to be a little early to get the best place to sit, always choose the opposite side of the mandirs and the temples. This is the best place to view the aarti. You can cross the bridge and then reach this side, this is opposite to the stairs.

Patanjali Yogpith - 17 KM from Haridwar

This is a yogpith, very nicely built with lots of facilities. A full fledge Yogshala with Yoga sessions, Doctors(vaidhya) consultation -- free of charge. Fully equiped medical facilities for checkups.

Great place for recreation and Learning Yoga for a better life if you are inclined towards Yog-Asans. This place is basically run by Baba RamDev.

You can stay here and do meditation, 3 days of stay is allowed for recreation and meditation at a very nominal charge. The food court is very good with lots of special juices and fruit drinks. Good snaks and all kind of india foods are available.

You can also buy the prescribed medication (Aayurveda medicices) by the Docs(vaidyas). All the medication is available here.

You can book a CAB/Autoriskshaw from Har-Ki-Pouri Police Chowki. It will cost around Rs 500 for a return trip + waiting time of 3 hours.
Or else you are also take the Shared Auto. This is Rs 25 / person. They generally take 6 - 7 person. The Autorisckaws are big and spacious so shared auto is not a bad option. But then i reserverd one for our family.

Mansa Devi Temple -- up the hills

This is a nice place to visit and see the complete city of Haridwar. You can either take the stairs or take the ROPE WAY (Trolley services).

You can take walk down the market and reach the point where the start the rider, its hardly a 10 min walk from HAR-ki-Pouri. You will see a board (Udan Khatola service) on the right -- its written in hindi, so jst ask any of the shops they wil let you know. Or you can always take a Rickshaw.

From Har-Ki-Pouri, if you go the main market. The way up to this mandir starts from the middle of the market. These stairs go straight up to the mandir. You can buy the pooja samagri(Stuff for the PUJA) from upstairs just besides the mandir or while you start your climb. You can keep your baggage if you want at these shops, its pretty safe and they dont charge anything extra for that.

Keep some changes with you as there are lot of beggers on the way, which is difficult to avoid them on the way. Dont stop at them & NEVER start and fall into an argue, just move on.

You can start barefoot or you can keep your shoes with any of the fool walas (flowers shop)till the time you return from inside the mandir.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:small town, river ganga, places like rishikesh, patanjani are close, nice mandirs , good excurtion
  • Cons:Pandits, just be careful and ignore them if you are not interested in a PUJA. The keep bugging a lot.
