Coin de Mire Cap Malheureux

Photographs of Mauritius

This is on the north of the island, and forms part of the northern isles. You can take catamaran trips to some of these islands for the day. Very scenic.
Grand Baie

Grand Baie

This is a beautiful bay and is the main northern town in Mauritius. It has lots of bars, shops and restaurants. You can book most excursions and car hire here. There is a huge supermarket called Super U which is similar to a British Tesco. Prices are similar to the UK.
Flic en Flac Beach

Beaches in Mauritius

My favourite beach is Trou aux Biches to the north west and Mont Choisy, also in that area. They are old well established beaches, and get pretty busy at weekends when families come for picnics. There is some erosion and the beaches are not quite the white talcum powder they used to be, and you have to be careful of the coral. To the east a lovely beach to visit is Belle Mare, and to the south of the island Blue Bay. Flic en Flac remains very popular to the west, and is a long well established beach. A lot of the newer hotels like Legends at Grand Gaube have man made beaches, which are not so good but OK. This is Flic en Flac looking towards Le Morne.

Pros:"Can be what you make it. Stay in 5* or self cater. Easy to get around the island as smallish. Hiring a car is relatively cheap."
Cons:"Accomodation, especially 4/5* hotels expensive and drinks and snacks are overpriced. The hotels have recently taken to pricing in euros which is a con as this simply gives them the excuse to charge more."
In A Nutshell:"Scenic as well as a beach resort."

Great start on your Mauritius page, fellow Sheffielder! :-) I see you've been there a few times! Only the once so far for me, but I'm sure I'll be back again some day. It's a beautiful island isn't it?
