Saginaw is a decent sized city; its neighbors are Detroit and Flint. Residents in Saginaw have divided the city up into two parts, the West Side and the East Side. This is a visible divide as well, as the Saginaw River cuts in between.

There are some quaint places on the East Side, but most of it is delapitaded. The West Side is more well-kept and more safe. The East Side can be safe too, depending on where you are and how you act. The DOW center is on the East Side; around that area are neat restaurants and the bigger of the buildings, and I believe they have concerts on Fridays.

There are some typical things to do in Saginaw. We have bowling alleys with late night bowling specials at alleys like Stardust. We have 'kokomos', which has lazer tag, go karting, arcade, and they are even building a tiny rollercoaster there as well.

We have a few movie theaters, the best deal being at the Quad. Nice restaurants include Genjis, the Outback, the Panda House (which is kinda costly but really nice, they even have a piano player), and some other nice restaurants.

If you are into cycling or walking or whatever, Saginaw has a couple of trails that might interest you. If you find the Walmart off of Tittabawasee, you'll see a pond with a trail going around it. That trail extends for a mile through some decent scenery. There is also Ojibway park if you want to bike, jog, or have a Bbq.

At the local college campus of Delta, there is a trail open to the public that you can walk. Its very lovely also. If you drive onto campus from Mackinaw, take a left and then park in the J or K lot and you should be able to see the sign by the trees marking the trail.

For nature though, nothing beats Shiawassee National park. If you take Center all the way down, its down a dead-end road after the bridge. There are two trails, woodland and marsh, and you can have a nice 4 hour hike or longer, depending on what you fancy ;)

Outside of Saginaw like I mentioned are cities like Detroit and Flint. There's also Ann Arbor and Frankenmuth. Frankenmuth is a nice place to visit, modeled after german architecture. Its always very lively there- go have some chicken at Zenders ;)!

Ann Arbor is farther away than Frankenmuth, maybe an hour and a half if you drive like me ;)! Because it holds the university of michigan its a college city- I found it very pleasant, reminds me a lot of Madison Wisconsin. Lots of nice restaurants.

Been to Sleeping Bear Dunes too, which is a ways outside of Saginaw but totally worth the drive. Head up so you can arrive at sunset and watch the sun sink below the water on the dunes :)
