For 15 years I drove a taxi here in Dallas. I know the city, and the cities around Dallas. This is a great place to come in the spring and fall. Now remember this is Texas, you don't like weather just stand still for a minute. It will get hotter or colder. One summer we had 93 days in a row oer 100 degrees F.
Dallas is a Convention Town, the only two other cities in USA that gets as many or more then Dallas, thats Las Vegas and New York. So we have lots of Hotels, just don't book you trip during a convention or market show.
One January we had 50,000 visitors for a Market. you could not find a room within 25 miles of downtown. but for those same reasons there are lot eating places, entertainment, sporting events, and fun. Most major chain hotels have shuttles for within five miles of their location so you can make arraongement to go and come back.
Dallas has more then 2200 licenses Taxi. I can not advise on rental cars except to say that Dallas and Arlington both have large taxes on rental cars.
Remember this if you drive your own vehicle. the DFW metroplex is approx 150 mile east to west on over 100 miles north to south. that as large as 2-3 of the eastern states.
Look it up on one of the online maps service back up till you can see both city fully on the map its huge.
