We are from Newark, Delaware, and love to camp. We've just recently started camping together, though we've both camped before - this is our first summer at it.
We spent a long weekend in April in Fredericksburg, VA touring the civil war sites, and we had a ball. We stayed at the KOA in Fredericksburg - it was nice - clean, well kept, quiet, nearly empty and beautiful. That was our "shakedown" trip - new tent, new equipment, combining our stuff, etc - so we just wanted to take a long weekend to sort it all out, and all was well.
We're looking forward to many more trips together and meeting lots of people on the way. We love to tent camp, but Scott wants to get a popup or a small trailer eventually. We love fishing, hiking, historical places, and meeting new people wherever we go.
At the beginning of July 2008, we camped in the Staunton, VA area. We stayed at the KOA in Verona - not the best experience - see our comments on that in our tips. We visited Luray Caverns, Monticello, and took a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
In mid July we are heading with lots of friends for camping on the property of a friend on Hooper Island, just below Cambridge, MD.
