I remember, we arrived in front of a house along canal and waited on a line for buying ticket (7 Euro). The place gathered quite many Asian tourists. There were some exhibitions about Jewish life in the WW2 and also family Frank’s personal items like pictures, Anna’s writing and newspaper cuttings etc. in the house. It was forbidden to take pictures. What caught my eyes the most was an old world map which marked the territory of Netherlands by red color. Taiwan (Formosa) was included! We finally walked up a narrow stairs which entrance was used to be hidden by a wooden cabinet. It was a way to reach the place where the family Frank had lived secretly. The room was a little bigger than I had imagined… And I was impressed by very fine toilet and flush system in Europe in the beginning of 20 century! (I still remember the backward washing room which I used in elementary school...) In the souvenir shop they sold Anna’s famous daily of various versions. I was excited to see some printed in traditional Chinese characters from Taiwan! Anyway, it’s an unforgettable experience to visit Anna Frank House which reminds me the importance of peace in the world.

There were a lot of coffee shops, sex shops and glass cabinets in the district. Most of pedestrian there were men and also some tourists. Like other places in Amsterdam, the street scenes were pretty and peaceful due to canals and bridges. I was amazed by so various kinds of sex toys and tools. They were shown in cabinet. I guessed, they had the most advancing sex toys in the world, ha ha It was astonishing to see sex workers showing up at confident poses like movie stars in glass cabinet with a red light bar above. They were men/women, old/young, fat/slim and white/Asian/black people and all dressed up with sexy and little lingerie. Most of them had very beautiful looks in good shapes but it was somehow artificial because of heavy making-up and possible plastic surgery. I was very curious to look at them and see their furniture in the small room. But when they looked at my eyes, I became very shy… I would like to take pictures but I didn't dare especially some strong & big bodyguards were around. Some iron doors of the cabinets closed and it meant that the trade was proceeding. It was also interesting to see sex workers negotiating with customers with open door… I visited the district with a friend in day. It could be more stunning to visit the place at night but it could be dangerous. Red-light district is definitely a must-see place in Amsterdam. It’s a special product of the liberal & open society in Netherlands. But in the meanwhile it’s better to think about the dark sides of the sex industry under beautiful surface…
