The biggest city in Africa

by Hui-Hui - last update: Apr 2, 2007

My first day in Cairo-7 March 2007

When the plane landed off, I watched the landscapes through windows. I had to say that “It’s so dry!” It looked quite isolated with dry soil only. I’m lucky because although I was alone, fortunately I met many nice people who gave me a hand. My hotel had confirmed to pick me up but I didn’t see them and was bothered by several taxi drivers. Therefore I asked a Chinese-look guy (he is with one Chinese and two Egyptians.) for help. They were so kind because they were willing to take me to my hotel. First we took shuttle bus to a parking and then one of them drove me directly to the hotel. I was so touched!!!

It took some time to do check in (the staffs at this 5-star hotel spoke so good English!) so I went to take my breakfast first. There I met a Taiwanese-look girl and I got excited to talk to her. She did speak Mandarin but actually she was Thai Chinese named Ni. She was receiving training for serving in Egypt Air as flight attendant. I enjoyed my breakfast with her and other 5 girls! Afterwards I took a hot bath and relaxed in my hotel room and did grocery shopping in a nearby supermarket.

I had to begin my work the next day so I just caught chance of a free day for city tour. At 1:00pm I took free hotel bus to Egyptian Museum. There I hired a guide for one hour (100 LE). He made introduction and showed me the most important treasures of the antiques. I was impressed by all fine jewelry and gold coffins of Tutankhamen. The design was so delicate and beautiful. Ancient Egypt was such a powerful country thousands years ago!!!
