Leaving on a spur of the moment holiday, Louis, the children and I set off for the Komatipoort border. Without a pre-planed itenerary, we drive directly to Maputo. The long ago spendour of the capital city is but a mere memory, as we soon realise driving through Maputo. By now it is already mid-afternoon and as we find no accomodation at the local carevan park, we decide to cross the lagoon on a ferry. Once on the other side we plan to drive to the nearest coastal beach, but only one or two are shown on our Map.....

We travel on sand roads amongst small villages and the foliage becomes denser and the road narrower as we progress further on our way to the coast. Although no beaches are shown in the area on our GPS, we travel in the general direction of the sea. After about two hours, we notice a large nature reserve on the GPS map, betweenus and the coast. It is already dusk and we drive on in the hope of reaching the entrance to the park before dark. After asking a few passing vehicles for directions we finally reach the gate after dark. We are told we can't enter at night,
