Casabermeja is a small town of 3000 inhabitants, situated 20 kilometres North of Malaga. It is easily accessable from the main highway that leads to Granada (N341). It is located in the heart of beautiful countryside, surrounded by the mountain ranges of El Torcal, Cabras, Co and Los Camorolos.

Archaelogical finds (for example stone burial grounds and rock paintings) indicate that the area has been occupied by humans already in pre-historic times.

During the Moorish times Casabermeja was know by its fortress on the defensive line of the territory dominated by the Bobastro leadership. The Moorish fort whose ruins are still visible was built in the 13th century, 4 km away from the city, near the ancient royal road (Camino Real) to Malaga.
The towns name derives from Arabic. The Moors called the place Q´sar Bermeja, meaning the Red Castle.

The first written reference to the town appears after Malaga was reconquered (1487) by the Christians, in a letter sent by the King and Queen confirming the granting of Villa status to Casabermeja.
