Stuttgart, the capital of Baden-Württemberg, is only one hour from our hometown and an easy day trip. However, I was warned not to tell anyone there that we live in Karlsruhe, as these cities are natural born rivals. Well, let the humans deal with that. I say I am Australian!
The New Palace is a government building which includes the offices of the prime minister and the Ministry of Finance. As we did not want to be involved with those, we rather visited the Christmas market.
Much better atmosphere than any government office! The market is really big, it extends from Königsplatz past Altes Schloss and Stiftskirche to the square in front of the city hall.
That visit to the Christmas market happened in December 2009. Afterwards I passed through Stuttgart by train a couple of times but never got off.
However, I heard a lot about the "Wilhelma", which is the zoo and botanical garden of the city. It sounded interesting and beautiful. When my 4th birthday approached, I wished for a trip there. So we went!!!
Never before have I received that many flowers for my birthday, and I met many nice animals - even some fellow Aussies!
