Mondsee (engl.: "Moon Lake") is both a very nice lake and the name of a small but quite touristy town which was built around one of the oldest monasteries in Austria at the northern top of the lake. The particular charme of this lake is the very different scenery at tis northern end between low mountains which can only be called hills in this surroundings and a quite dramatic Alpine scenery at its southern part. In that the lake does not differ much from some other lakes touching the Alps in the North but here the change is within an extremely short distance. The lake allows almost all kinds of water sports activities. Its particular advantage is the fact that it is always a little bit warmer than the other lakes around like Attersee and Wolfgangsee. |
