"One of the highest pass roads in the Alps" Parco Nazionale dello Stelvio by lotharlerch
Parco Nazionale dello Stelvio Travel Guide: 13 reviews and 32 photos
This area is in Südtirol/Alto Adige bordering Lombardia and the Swiss Grischun/Graubünden. The ancient pass road over the Stilfser Joch/Passo Stelvio connects these three regions (the Swiss frontier with the Umbrail pass is only 100 m away and a road leads down to the Swiss val Müstair). This means also that here meet (at least virtually) the three languages German, Italian and Rumantsch (the fourth official language of Switzerland). It is almost not imagineable that there was 1915 - 1918 the frontline between Austria and Italy with incredible numbers of victims on both sides and changes of this line of only a few meters during the3 years of war.
- Pros:Fantastic landscape, easily accessible
- Cons:easily accessible
- In a nutshell:a highlight in the Eastern Alps
