"The Soft Core of Austria" Bundesland Niederösterreich by lotharlerch

Nieder- and Oberösterreich, (Upper and Lower Austria) the both states along the Danube, form the oldest part of Austria.
To the superficial visitor they seem to be quite similar but looking more closely you find the rougher landscapes and the harder climate in Upper Austria, the Alps reach here almost 3000 m on the Dachstein while only very few tops in Niederöstarreich reach 2000 m. There is no wine in Upper Austria while Lower Austria hosts the major share of all Austrian winehills which clearly shows the climatic differences.
And even the language seems to be softer. A famous place in Oberösterreich is called Fúcking, a villiage of comparable size in Niederöstarreich is named Fugging, the same word but a softer pronounciation. While the Upper Austrian Braunau was the birthplace of an infamous painter who decided to become politician known as A. Hitler the almost equally sounding name Hiedler in Langenlois in Lower Austria is connected with top class wines. Needless to say that I prefer to drink a bottle of their wines instead of reading "Mein Kampf".....
