I was in the Kyrgyz capital for only less than 3 days on a business trip. The most impressive in Bishkek is the great scenic view when looking South. Only a few kilometers from the city are mountains up to more than 4800 m high (which is about the same as the Mont Blanc, the highest top in the Alps). Bishkek and the immediate surroundings north of it seem to be the only flat places in this scenic country. In Bishkek itself I missed a sorts "urban density", all streets are extremely wide with at least double alleys in most of them, so the whole city looks completely green.

Some of the pictures on this website were taken by my friends Peter Lieberzeit and Bruno Sperl who have been togehter with me in Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.
- Pros:Very green city with a relaxed atmosphere
- Cons:no real "City -Feeling"
- In a nutshell:A good start to explore a wonderful country

Ah! Those Central Asian taxis! They are probably more expensive now, but will see soon how it is here. Nice Intro to Bishkek.
Thanks for the excellent tips on Bishkek - I had never heard of it before. I laughed at the idea of being woken in the middle of the night to find our if you needed a "massage" haha - Regards Mike (and Shelley) in "Barking Town"
Good job and pictures! Interesting reading on ugly monuments, Lenin, night "massages" and impressive mountains.
Wonderful stuff.
That mountain-scenery looks really special ! - - - I am glad to see, there are places left in this world, where Mr.Lenin may still proudly breath fresh air, and is not hidden in some backyards or garbage-places... ;-))
Great page. Beautiful photos.
